Calamansi is an inter-genetic hybrid of citrus and kumquat genes. Calamansi trees are widely grown in various parts of the world, including the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Southern China. Calamansi fruit resembles a small round lime with a diameter of 25-35 mm. When the fruit ripens, the pulp turns orange and has a very thin orange peel. Each fruit contains 8 to 12 seeds.
Calamansi has a high antioxidant content, including Phloretin-G and Vitexin, which inhibit the formation of bacterial biofilms.
